OK Autrod 5183 is ideal for allowing alloy aA 5083 and similar permanganese alloys to achieve the highest possible strength under weld conditions. The more common OK Autrod 5356 generally does not meet the welding tensile strength requirements of AA 5083. The alloy is commonly used in high-strength, high-break toughness and highly corrosive marine and structural applications where impact resistance is high. The alloy is not recommended for high temperature applications due to its easy stress corrosion cracking. The alloy cannot be heat treated.
